The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery
The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery is the Saluting Battery of the Household Troops of His Majesty The King.
The primary role of The Troop is as a Mounted Battery to conduct Ceremonial Operations, firing Gun Salutes and taking part in state occasions. And the Troop is famous world-wide for the awe-inspiring Musical Drive.
All members of The Troop are trained operational soldiers and have a significant role in the defence of the United Kingdom, including support to the Civil Authorities, anti-terrorist deployments, driving vital vehicles, and recently in health testing and vaccinating during the pandemic. Individuals have also recently served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, the Falkland Islands and elsewhere abroad.
The King’s Troop represents the whole Royal Regiment of Artillery and is one focus for the esprit de corps of the whole Regiment. As well as joining directly, members of the Troop also come from and may return to other Royal Artillery units in “Find and Strike” roles: finding the enemy so as to engage them in the air and on the ground with everything from explosive shells to advanced precision missiles.
The Troop can be seen in action on many state and ceremonial occasions in London and elsewhere.
